    Drug abuse did not ruin Whitney's voice. I know many druggies and have been in rehab ten times and I can sing just as good if not better and those people I was with have no vocal problems. What killed Whitney's voice was Whitney was a habitual and chronic cigarette smoker and it was THAT that ruined her voice. When I was in college, all the vocal majors went outside for their smoke breaks and the voice teachers would be out of their minds trying to figure out how to tell these stupid kids not to smoke because it ruins your voice. and it does. You are ruining the very thing that you are going to try to make a living with lol and they just didn't get it and neither do a lot of singers today. Absolutely NO SMOKE!! can go over your vocal cords if you are going to want to keep your voice at its best. Not even breathing it. No smoke canenter your sensory world. It ruined Arethas voice and it ruined Bryan Adams voice and a lot of other singers whose voices had deteriorate. When Whitney was preparing for The Launch of I LOOK TO YOU, she needed vocal lessons. The Hitman–Foster said he could not even get a decent vocal out of her for some of the songs on the new album. Her voice was shot. Even Clyde finally had to acknowledge and and they had made a plan for her to rest after I LOOK TO YOU. Her voice teacher pleaded and pleaded and pleaded with her to stop smoking and told her repeatedly that it was ruining her voice. She kept promising and it really hurt him to see her vocally the way she was. I have never smoked a cigarette but I think i can say this after having been in rehab for other things ive smoked , people in recovery usually choose cigarettes as a form of therapy to get them off of using higher drugs and I always saw this as detrimental to a recovering person's success but in a way i has to be done that way as every treatment center will tell you. You have to go to something lower than where you were before. anyway, back to her vocal teacher ,One afternoon while at her house he was preparing to leave and gathered all of his stuff. He left the house and noticed that He forgot something. On returning to the house, he knocked on the door and Whitney answered with a cigarette hanging from her mouth. It was her constant smoking LEGAL things that made her voice less than ideal and the improper care of it. Mariah had NEVER tried drugs but there is a decline in the quality of her voice these days. That is not a bad thing. It just happens lol. We lose our hair, gain weight, lose our hearing, our eyesight, sense of taste and other things as we get older. It saddens me to see people say Whitney lost her voice due to drugs when most of us if anyone of us were there and no. one of us know exactly vocally what that person went through. Unfortunately, some drugs improve you singing in the beginning and you start to hear things more intensely and music becomes like a powerful experience for you. Drugs unfortunately open up your mind and ears to where a lot of people's music abilities are augmented. But it comes with an awful price—your soul. This coming from a jazz pianist and vocalist. God bless Whitney!!! I am 43 and she has been my favorite singer since I was about ten years old. We played her non stop in our house along with Luther, Michael, Anita, Stevie, Gladys, Patti, and Aretha. She is the love of my life. I have probably read every book, seen every biography, play everysong or almost on my keyboard, watched every interview and dissceted every song on every album!!! lol. Yes, i am that obssessed and proud of it. I hope this cleared up a little confusion for someone. God Bless. He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone!!
