This expressly contradicts Tolkien's inspiration for his mythology…which was just that–mythology. The professor read about dragons and heroes for a living. He even mocked people who tried to peer behind the curtain to catch him playing Oz. I don't think he's made more than the extremely rare, passing remark when it comes to his experience in ww1. A materialist take will never understand Tolkien's inspiration.

so if the great war is war of the silmarils and ww2 is the war of the ring… but this scene is depicted in ww1 right? so maybe the kaiser is the melkor and hitler is the sauron

The bit where the two stand in the shell crater full of dead bodies in a pool of blood. You'd think it actually was something from a film but was a real thing that happened. Which many soldiers saw.
That the most critizied part of the movie, Tolkien didn't saw flame thrower has dragon he saw the Tank has dragon, they were unbreachable and where extremely difficult to fight once they where near your position, does that remind you of any sort of creature from Tolkien's univers?

This is so sad
WWI was indeed brutal as Hell but this scene is utterly dumb and unrealistic. Germans (who invented the flamethrower) didn't use flamethrowers like that. You couldn't approach a front line trench like that. No way a large group of Germans can just walk up to an enemy position and just appear there firing down into a bunch of helpless and surprised British infantry. The Germans would have been cut to pieces hundreds of yards away.
Is it any wonder that Tolkien's first novel was The Hobbit? Almost a lark compared to his horrible memories of the war.

Sad to think that this happened to many men in WW1 And WW2, The Pacific does a good bit on it noting the terror of being huddled together in dugouts, never knowing if a shell is going to get lucky and land and explode in the dugout or collapse it.
When you join the firefighters to save lifes, but you ends up burning them alive in France instead.
