Love the thing at 00:31 where it shows how he might have come up with a character idea..
My great grandfather fought in World War 1 and was gassed. He lived long enough to come home and start a family and have my grandfather in 1930 before dying when my grandpa was a little boy from complications of the gassing.. I can only imagine what it was really like to be in a war that really seemed like the end of the world.
I saw this movie recently. He an my idol and I was inspired by him to write. His story felt so relatable to me and even brought me to tears. A beautiful movie

This just kind of radiates “Marauders” energy got me and it’s great.

I thought it was a new the lord of the rings.
He was planning to write Lord of the Rings together with his friends initially, but he was the sole survivor of them after WWI. Lúthien and Arwen may have some Edith in it, but his other life experiences affected it just as much. He was rich in inspiration though. He basically started writing the Silmarillion since he was a teen and languages since he was a child. It almost feels like fate spared him for the very purpose of these books being meant to exist.
Tolkien truly appreciated real "Fellowship." He had deep bonds with three beloved friends at school. However, in WWI two died, one was mentally incapacitated & he himself was in a unconcious state for weeks. "Deal ye one with another with the utmost love and harmony, with friendliness and fellowship… This goal excelleth every other goal, and this aspiration is the monarch of all aspirations." ~ Baha'u'llah, Baha'i Faith
This is a great biopic, from his childhood to the moment where he started the first sentence for "The Hobbit", but these trailers were just so wrong. The few trailers that were released included almost all the full fantasy-dream sequences as seen in the movie, giving the impression of an almost epic-like movie, when in fact it's a biopic. The trailers should have been like "The Theory of Everything" or "A Beautiful Mind". It felt like they tried to cash in on the Lord of The Rings/The Hobbit movies, which in return created wrong expectations leading to lower ratings than expected.
Also, why would you release this movie a week after Avengers Endgame? No wonder it bombed in the box office 🙁
