Royal canine is owned by nestle.. literally is nothing special the ingredients are the same as a cheap kibble. They pay vets and pet stores to push their products.. vets are under payed so they can’t say no. The first ingredient is rice lmao.. and it’s kibble so it’s highly processed dry product. Go raw if you can afford it, it’s the best for your dog. Just do your own research Royal canine use a loop hole to get by the FDA by making it a “prescription” product.. why is it prescription??? It’s just kibble. So all of their claims can be completely fabricated you don’t really know.. give it try if you must but if your dog doesn’t get any better don’t feel bad try find a better vet. My dog got worse on royal canine so I did my own research and was shocked.. went raw and my dog got better. Highly recommend doing your own research people!

My now 83.3lbs 9 year old goldenddodle had his front paw amputated on May 28th about a week ago do to bone cancer (osteosarcoma) I switched his diet from kibble to Dr harveys paradigm food. How ever is costing me about $250 a month. I acording g to my math I have to buy about 25lbs of fresh meat (chicken, beef, turkey etc) to ad to Dr harveys food. This prescription kibble dog foods will be way cheaper but many people told me to stop giving kibble since it feeds cancer:(

Hydrolysed protein saved my dogs life . My dog suffered from immune mediated poly arthritis and was on steroids for over a year with relapses . . The veterinary dietician switched him to purina pro plan hypoallergenic ha kibble and tinned wet mousse and stopped the steroids straight away . He has been fine ever since . We have added boiled kale , carrots and broccoli and his treats are hills hypoallergenic which are also good for him . It is brilliant . I would suggest see a good dietician who will help by treating the gut . Thank you and good luck to everyone

I feel this saved my dog as well.

At around middle age (not sure how old he is because he’s a rescue) my dog started developing severe reactions to various types of food. I tried switching to so many different brands and he’s start off fine, then start going down the road of chronic diarrhea again (and yes, I bought the highest rated foods and transitioned each one gradually).

About a year ago, my dog started crashing with constant diarrhea, looked like he was in severe pain, and lost about 15% of his body weight. My vet stabilized him with anti nausea meds and IV fluids, then suggested Royal Canin hydrolyzed protein dry food, mixed with water and Purina Pro Plan Fortiflora SA probiotic/prebiotic. It worked wonders. Not only has he hasn’t had a sick day since, but his weight is good, his collie/husky coat is as luxurious as it has ever been and I can count on healthy poops every day (oddly, his poops are waaaay smaller than would be expected).

Since he has stabilized, I add toppers such as a tiny bit of boiled chicken breast or carrot slices and he loves it.

EDIT: in case anyone is curious, the brands I tried previously were Petcurian Fresh, Wellness, Carna4 and Orijen. All are quality foods but just not right for my dog. My other dog, a corgi, has never had stomach issues and likes/eats Wellness brand. Whatever works, I say!

Thank you for your review. My dog was very sick for several months. In addition to her meds treatment, surgerys, etc., I changed her food to Hill's Z/D (hydrolyzed protein) and she got better with that combo.

After a whole year of vomits, contipations and diarrheas and worst things she finally got better and she has normal poops.

Now I am looking for alternatives because they are no longer selling this food in my country, my vet recommended this one and now I'm looking for reviews because as you said there are not many reviews.

I agree it is expensive (as hell) but it is worth it for my dog. Also, Hill's is more expensive, so if this Royal Canin works will be so much better. In Mexico the biggest package (11kg) is 100 dollars and Hill's the biggest (8kg) is 85 dollars. And I have a german shepard, so I'm desesperate for something more affordable.

Some very helpful advice – thank you. We bought a Bassett Hound twelve months ago, He's had nothing but dietary problems. Sickness, diarrhoea and going off his food. He was hospitalised for four days after he collapsed. I've just returned from the vet today following an abdominal scan, which was thankfully clear. The vet has prescribed something very similar made by 'Hills'. I checked out other brands and saw the that RC produce an almost identical version. The price is equally expensive, so I will stick with the 'Hills' version for now. I'll keep you posted on how he gets on. We are all praying this is the last time he has to see a vet as he's only 15 months old, poor thing! Kind regards from the UK.

So I have had my dog on this food for about 5 years now. Same as you tried every other food including fresh food. With the fresh food he would throw up even trying a small transition to fresh food. With all the other dog foods he would end up with acid reflex and throw up white acid liquid every time. The vet visits results was he was allergic to the ingredients found in other foods. One thing my dog has developed though is lumps under his skin. Started with a large lump and now has many. They are all benign but still I often wonder if its because of this food. His stomach is still to sensitive for those other foods I have tried but soon as I return him on this food life is good. The lumps have all started this last year he is 8 now. Mini Schnauzer so they do develop skin disorders and lumps for that breed.

  8. Dew Drop says:

Hi Michael. The vet recommended this food for my dogs. I'm wondering though, in your situation, did you ever tried giving your dog fresh food, either home made or bought from companies that use fresh human-grade ingredients, did that not work either? I think that our pets are getting sick from all the synthetics and preservatives that are in these highly processed pet foods. I appreciate your time.

My dog also was suffering from severe diarrhea and vomiting. She was on Apoquel for a long time for her skin allergies. I also have tried many different dog foods that didn't help. I did take her off Apoquel and she improved. Tested it again by putting her on Apoquel and symptoms came back. Took her to the emergency Vet internist and they did an ultrasound and blood test. Everything was good on the ultrasound, but her liver count was very high…something Apoquel can cause…but the vet put her on Royal Canin Hydrolyzed protein and she has been doing well physically. She does drink a lot of water with this food and now she doesn't want to eat the dry food but will eat the canned food. The dry food is much higher in protein which would be better for her. Its good to know that this food works! So I will be tough with her! Oh by the way, she lost 4 lbs being sick and she has so much more energy now that she is on this food. The vet wants her on this for 1 month and re-evaluate her liver count then. My dachshund is 14 years old and is healthy otherwise according to the results of the ultrasound and blood test (besides the liver count which we stopped the Apoquel) And yes…small fortune spent on my dog for all the visits! My dog is a rescue and adopted her when she was 6 year old. SHe also had lots of problems that some of them were solved, just the tummy and digestion issues until we started the Royal Canin. I am happy to see that they have a small dog size. That may be why she doesn't want the dry food…she is missing some teeth and the food pieces are large for her. Thank you for making this video! It has been very helpful.
