NYC is truly magical. In some parts of the city you feel like you are back in the 1890s-1920s-1930s-the 1970s. Lika a Hollywood movie

While the view from the ESB is amazing, the only problem is that, well, you can't see *the Empire State Building*. The view from the nearby Rockefeller Center "Top of the Rock" might not be as phenomenal, but you instead get treated to the magnificent, unbeatable view that is looking at the ESB straight-on with the entire rest of Manhattan in the background.
So, to anyone looking to visit and struggling to choose one of all the lookout spots, in my opinion, Rockefeller and looking onto the Empire State Building is a better overall experience, and then you can always save actually visiting the ESB for the remainder of your bucket list. Also, honestly, just going into the ESB lobby is almost more than enough. That mural is… just wow.
My father worked in the ESB in the late 40's as a chemical engineer. He had the day off when that B-29 crashed into the building.

Went up to the top of the Empire State Building twice as a kid visiting New York City, and saw the great metropolis from the top floor observation deck. Never forget it. Thanks for the upload.
To me the ESB has a soul and a real personality. Needless to say the people involved in its construction in a mere 14 months seems like a 'Miracle', let alone an truly Iconic symbol of American know how, and will , to create a real engineering marvel for all to admire and enjoy now and for many decades to come. Only 9 years until its 100th Anniversary.
It's a shame that the city surrounding the ESB is a crime infested jungle.

When I visited the Empire State building, the craziest thing to me were the windows on the top floor. The window frames were wooden and you could tell very old. You've probably seen similar window frames in older buildings that were 1 or 2 floors high, except here we were on the 80th or 90th floor. It took me back in time, imagining how it must have been for people working in this building in the 1930s, cracking a window open at a slant for fresh air.
Did they have central air in there then ?
