Put ice and table salt in the bottom of the pot you want to clean, swirl the pot around and watch it come clean
Thank you. Syphon coffee is my favourite way of brewing coffee as well. The only problem is that it is a pain to clean. Otherwise, I would use it every day .
Gale from breaking bad made siphon coffee.
We smile a little over that other countries coffee looks like tea. Swedish coffee is black as death and works like a morning after pill. Anyways, a bottle brush bent to fit the curvature of the pot sides works fine. Or the old trick to occasionally add a couple of tablespoons of rice and soapy water, then giving the pot a good shake with your hand over the openeing. The rice cleans out all the awkward angles and your pot comes out sparkling. ✨
Rinse with ice water. No water spots!
naisu!
Hi, is there a certain type of coffee which is better brew with a syphon ? I usually drink dark roasted coffee, not sure a syphon is suitable .Thanks !
This recipe is overly complicated. I grind coffee ultra fine, like with Turkish coffee and use a 17:1 water to coffee ratio. I put cold water in the bottom and the coffee in the top and give it a little shake to make sure the coffee bed is flat. I press the button and walk away. The machine beeps when it begins brewing. When it beeps a second time, I give the top a little shake to ensure the coffee bed is flat and then wait for the coffee to come down to the bottom. That's it. Using an extra timer and boiling the water ahead of time adds complexity that we really don't need at all.
Have one of these ready to order and wanted to get some insight on it first. Thank you for the info and it has helped cement my decision to get one!! Subscribed because I love coffee making apparatuses and so I think I will enjoy your channel immensely!!
Well done video and informative. Thank you!
Run to your local Target store. They have them on sale for 18.00!
Great video! There isn't alot of non bodum produced content on this brewer. I just got mine 2 days ago and tried a few recipes and will give yours a crack tomorrow! I let it do it for the full 4 minutes on day 1 and what a terrible cup!
Glad go see yours boils the coffee at the top too! It doesn't mention it in the manual and all the other traditional syphon method videos I watched never showed it!
Do you know if there is a filter available for this?
Hi Charlie! Hello from Italy – just a recent supercurious coffe lover. Have just found your video here, wil look into more of them 🙂 . I really like your detailed review, you really inspire confidence in viewers! (And I've watched many vids around – they're all good in their own ways, not saying, anyway). Even before I'm checking (so I won't forget to write this later), I'd really like you to try the Italian "napoletana / cuccumella" flip drip coffee pot. I have tried the moka (which, around the '50s-'60s, replaced the napoletana flip drip in Italian homes – but I still have my granny's ones – it made far better coffee in most people's views), the pour over, the nitro, the bar espressos of course and americano, but I still stick to the flip drip. I havent found a single review on the texture of its brew, and I'd really like an opinion from out of Italy. On ebay/amazon you'll find some, Ilsa is the main brand which still produces them (I recommend the steel ones, for safety and because I switched to them for good – so we could share views on it). Oh and, I came here to know more about the Bodum syphon. Was uncertain but thanks to you I'll definitely get one – an open flame one (cheaper to heat) but I'll use a flame reducer flat net and will be careful (Bodum Santos I mean). Cheers! Ludo 🙂
My first job was in food service. We would clean the coffee pots by wetting a paper towel, then throwing it into the pot and spinning it around in there. Comes clean every time and it doesn't matter what shape the pot is, as long as the paper towel can fit
whoa.hold up.bodum makes one? thank the gods for Amazon lol.
I first heard of siphon coffee makers watching classic British film. Check out Black Narcissus or Night Train to Munich to see one of these in action. I think directors liked to use them in movies because they're so dramatic looking and cool.
Can't ser any difference with a french press method, Other than "it looks cool with water going up and down". You put coffe into water, let It Bloom, infuse and the separate water from thecoffee. No pressure involved in the estraction itself. Applies to both methods.
which is better or more acidity ? mokapot or siphoon
Hi Charlie! Could you make a syphon comparison between Hario Technica and Next..?
great video I learned a lot.
Hi Charlie. I have the stovetop version of the Bodum Pebo. I feel it takes far too long for the coffee to siphon back down to the lower chamber, and occasionally the upper chamber does not empty completely, making the coffee ruined. I've tried different grinds and never use high heat. Like you, I preheat the water. Do you have any suggestions as to why the coffee in top carafe takes so long to enter the bottom? Thank you!
I have this Bodum Siphon Coffee maker, and it was lovely until the coffee chamber’s bottom seals started to leak coffee all over the place and on the electric burner as well. So far, I do not recommend. This issue started happening at the 5th month of ownership.
This was very helpful. I’m considering getting my husband one for his birthday. Thank you!
“What are we doing making Meth?”
I now have this machine. Why don't you let the machine brew for the full 4 minutes?
Edit: Also, the machine in this video is sold at Target online now.
Question. Do you have to make a full pot every time.
Sorry but it looks stupid.. So much trouble for a Turkish coffee
Never had one but I don't see the difference from a normal Turkish
Well done. Enjoyed the edit too. Wonderful composition in your shots, particularly you talking on the right and then the shot with the siphon being on the left of the screen with the pot plant in the right of the frame. Great lighting and great audio to. Nice production.
