Guys, i have 1980Gen2 La Pavoni professional – it has 49mm baskets.. but outer border of portafilter seems 58mm
…will it work if i'll replace portafilter with baskets for… idk – 52, 54, 56mm?
if outer border is 58mm
Coffee really, it doesn’t need a lot of technology. It is not a life and death drug. 99.9999 percent of people just gulp it down.
I got an IMS basket on your recommendation before my Gaggia Classic Pro came in the door. I am still working of brewing my first 20 shots and feel blessed to have such knowledgeable parasocial friends.
Huge change on my end. I tried the ECM default basket when I got my Syncronika. I switched to a VST (18 grams) and also an IMS (15 and 22 grams). Definitely worth the switch. Didn't see a huge difference between IMS and VST.
After switching to IMS precision baskets, my results became much more pleasant and especially more consistent in a double as well as a single basket. I always struggled with single baskets before…
Is there any danger of metal fragments with the sheared edge of a punctured hole like that on the cheap side?
At its most fundamental level a spring is just a piece of wire…..
Just curious. Wouldn't you have to grind finer if you are buying a basket size one size larger and then simply under dose if you want to smaller. Just based on the comment if you only want one basket buy bigger and dose less
"he left annoyed…. and that made me delighted." god i love this channel hahaa
Thanks! My coffee was sour and just ordered a different basket. Currently i have a pressure basket and because the new basket hasn't arrived yet, I did an experimented with only one dose in a 2 cup basket is already much better. Hopefully with the new basket its way better
Espresso newb here: So it seems that non-pressurized single wall baskets are the way to go. If I only want to pull one shot, is it better to fill a straight-walled double shot basket only half full, or to use the tapered single shot basket?
Where can i get these espresso glases?
About 12years ago I replaced my racilio silvia basket with a synesso basket, I think it's 18g. A cheap and very effective upgrade.
Can anyone recommend a non-pressurized basket that will actually fit in my DeLonghi BC0432? I have tried a couple of different 51mm baskets, but they get stuck in the machine when I pull out the portafilter.

I would love to see a video about getting the best results with a single basket. Sounds like a great way to enjoy espresso more often without having a heart attack, but it is hard to work with.
I have Lelit MaraX and I changed the shower and the basket to IMS Precision ones. The basket I bought is 16-18gr and I'm happy with them. I can not say that now it's better the espresso but I can say it's pretty different the flow, the cream…..
James, great video.
I am similar to you where I overanalyze everything in my life and than I got confused from one sentence in your video.
Can you please explain a little on the weight in a filter basket vs the specified weight of it especially for precision ones.
you say that the resistance of them is calibrated to give the proper resistance together with approx. specified amount of coffee .
What would that mean in practice if for example.
-17g dose in 18g VST basket gives the classic 34g out in 25s
how would one use 17g in 22g basket ?
-use same grind setting, and pull a shot in shorter time, (as less resistance from the filter it self)
or
-use a finer grind setting to return the time to 25s ?
Thank in advance for your time
I examined the baskets that came with my Breville Bambino and found they were of very high quality. (I'm glad I looked closer because I was about to order a new basket.) All the holes were round, complete and uniform. This appliance was only $260. I'm a bit confused by the need to automatically get new baskets.
Why are baskets defined by grams if they really differ in volume? 18 gr coarse can be the same volume as 22 gr fine?
I just got a Breville and since day 1, I have been trying to brew espresso with single dose basket :), thank you for saying that it isn't easy
For those of you from the south he means *barsket’
Yep, changed out the stock breville 54mm basket with an IMS basket and the flow increased! Trying out the IMS shower screen too. Interested to see a discussion about that!
Great video as always. I've recently upgraded to an IMS 18-22g on my Barista Express. 18g is my usual dose but given the size of the new basket my shots are running much faster. Problem is I don't want to increase my dose. Is my only option to get a smaller basket?
I would love James' thoughts on the WW Unifilter
Recently purchased a Decent Espresso 18g. Excited to see how it goes from my stock flair basket.
James, just finished the video…I am in the process of steep learning curve to develop my skills for home use (Breville Barista Express). My question is this due to my knowledge gap…I have been using the double walled insert with the original set up, but I have just purchased an open bottom portafilter handle (54mm). My question is should I continue use the double walled insert or transition to the single walled insert? Will my drip times remain the same, increase, or decrease…I currently use a a 5, but less than 5.25 grind setting.
Thanks for your reply and the videos…getting ready to by a precision basket too.
A whole new world has opened up to me:-)
How often do we need to replace baskets?
