Video to dark. And you didn't show measuring of the part.
OH, that's what one measures to determine which one it is, okay I see. Thank you for the video, it took a few sources to find that info for some reason.
Hey Jeff thanks for the tutorial – I have a 29” bmx (SE bike) its a single speed of course and 1/8 chain on it, trying to replace the stock 16T freewheel to White Industries 16T and for some reason the new one requires 3/32 chain – why is that? It’s still a one gear bike with a 36T sprocket at the front- how does that work? Thanks
Awesome, I really needed that explanation. and toytally agree with ur end comment 'XD. ty.
The good- nice explanation of difference. The bad -If i was Fing chinese bat I would be able to sense what he was showing but I am not a bat.
What is the difference in weight?
Thank you!
I was trying to find out the what size chain i needed for my moped and this video did the trick. now i know what size chain i need for my moped.
Cheers
Thanks, very helpful.
spot on video explained brilliantly thank you.Just using an electric bike kit on a wheel barrow. The kit chain is now I know 1/8 but the chain I bought is 32`s which fits the sprocket that I bought for the front wheel of the barrow. But it wouldnt fit on the drive motor (head scratch momment for a day or two). But now I know to buy a 18 chian. Thanks bud..
Thanks, just bought the wrong chain and was wondering why
great explanation mate
excellent explanation. You should try and redo this video since the information is clear and well explained…but the lighting and camera motion could use some improvement. I am sure that your equipment has improved over the six years. People still need this explanation. Thanks
Thank you for mentioning the width Noone else does great help
Thanks Jeff , I just found out the hard way about this today ……I had a new chain on a 7 speed cruiser and wanted to change the crank shaft sprocket , I bought two different ones at 44T ……I just wasn't getting it )-: and getting frustrated to say the least …….like the chain I needed a 3/32 sprocket ……..the bike shop guy basically explained what you just did . I ordered number 3 sprocket today and hopefully I will finally get it right
Thanks man, exactly the info I needed
good video, looks like i ordered the wrong crank
Doesnt make sense.. you say its the width of the chains thats different yet length is the same between each link.. so both chains should fit surely
Thank you very helpful
wow a nice dark room to look at some dark silver chains
Can I run a 1/8'" chain on a 3/32 freewheel or will it skip and feel loose?
Perfect explanations. Thank you for this chain explanation.
Very helpful thanks
thanks for the visual demo.
my race Bmx runs 3/32 but my park or(freestyle) bike runs 1/8
Profile bmx says their sprockets are 3/32.
Thanks for posting this. 1/8 = 4/32 so obviously a 1/8 is bigger than a 3/32. People like you that post these videos make this world a better place. p.s . I heard a cat in the video. I love cats.
Chain size corresponding witch chainring/sprocket size. That's all there is to know.
You have 1/8 chainring/sprocket you go with a 1/8 chain and vice versa [3/32 chain on 3/32 sprocket/chainring].
Mismatched components are always a bad idea, at least as it comes to mechanics. 😛
Note (writing it because came across such myths): 1/8 are not more durable than 3/32, they are just wider. You can usually get same model of chain in both sizes and they are going to perform equally on corresponding systems.
@nedzer rusticus If its not too late. 😛
Using 1/8 chain on 3/32 chainrings/sprockets is possible but it's going to make the entire system wear faster and make it prone failing because its going to be loose and travel sideways.
this has been great, thank you……….I am trying to replace my single speed crankset, Question, if the supplier is telling me it's ok to use their a 3/32 designed crankset with a 1/8 chain would that be ok ? I can see from your vid., that putting a 3/32 on a 1/8 chainset just does not fit and is not such a good idea but what about putting a 1/8 chain on a 3/32 crankset ?
thanks! this really helped
That's actually very strange as I used to race BMX in the 80's and I used to run a 3/32" chain on mine without issue.
