What if you use clear ice instead of normal ice? Would there be any different?
I missed some sweetness so I trier to make a sirup 50/50 water and sugar, but this dilutes the coffee so I tried to suspend a sugercube beneath my V60. Someone a cleverer idea how to do this?
Excellent. My pour went way too quick Which made the brew a bit bitter. I guess will have to try a finer grind
Hot bloom cold brew! I've heard it helps to release more of these "missing" flavors in a typical cold brew into the end result, as well as raising the caffeine content and acidity.
Hello coffee friends! Trying to get this down but it's coming out a bit bitter. What temperature is "hot" water? Asking because the usual temperature can vary a lot depending on the method. Also I have a Baratza Encore. Any idea of the grind size? When I brew my V60 I usually set it to 15 or 16, so should I set it lower than that? For example, I set my Clever dripper to 22, so I'm not sure what he means when he says to grind "finer than you usually would" since that could vary depending on the brew. Thank you!
What size grind do you like to use?
who is doing korean subtitle on your video?? they are so accurate i'm very surprised..! I thought I was reading a texbook on coffee brewing 🙂 New subscriber here
Perfect
I think I'll need a cold cup of coffee, you look all blurry.
I tried it today the first time and it was delicious thank you ☺️
The re-watch value of these videos is amazing. I learn a lot the first time, but then it really pays off to come back after I've learned more and experimented myself. Wow.
ترانا قديمين بالهبال بالقهوة
Just made this in my Moccamaster. INCREDIBLE iced coffee. This is my go-to now!
Have you considered solving the extraction problem of using less water by using the clever dripper? The problem with the pour over method is that you are using much less water (therefore reducing the amount of time coffee is in contact with the water). You have solved the problem by using more coffee ground slightly finer. Why not just use the clever dripper? The contact time with the water is completely independent of the amount of water being used. I've tried it and yields EXCELLENT results.
Just came back and watched this video again so I could get my basics right and brew one again. Thanks!
This seems mind blowingly brilliant
First try, worked a charm. I didn't have any ice left over to put in the glass before pouring over, however the coffee didn't fully melt all of the ice when brewing so poured that ice with the coffee in the glass for a sweet, strong and cool class of ice coffee. Cheers James!
This legitimately made one of the best cups of coffee I have had, period
James Hoffman you've done it again.
The thumbnail shows Hario wave but the clip acturally is about v60.
Soooo, I've been watching James for over a year now…and I'm beginning to get really tempted to buy coffee equipment and some fine beans. My household hasn't had coffee for 4 years.
What is your opinion on the coffee machine with the over ice brew setting?
What about brewing coffee and freezing it as ice cubes ?
James, would you change this recipe at all with the advent of the Hario Switch?
Thank you. I love and appreciate what you do.
I just made one and it's absolutely amazing. Thanks!
I don't even drink coffee I just like your voice and every other thing about your videos
What if… Same recipe, but… You made the ice cubes out of Coffee? Brew some coffee, let it cool down and then freeze it.
Does this video confuse anyone else? Is there a written step by step?
I feel like his later vids are better explained. The music doesn't help.
3:15 Could someone explain what he means by Cold Brew not extracting everything out of the coffee beans? What is it about hot water brewing that gets the most out of your coffee beans? Thank you.
I'm new to this method, but definitely intrigued as summer is fast approaching. Question, could you use something like the hario switch or clever dripper to achieve more extraction through immersion with the smaller quantity of water, then release that super potent coffee over the ice once it's had its steep time? Seems to be this would make this method even more potent and easy, but maybe I'm missing something?
Hi James, if more brew water is better, would you produce a better tasting brew if you just brewed normally (hot) and then chilled the coffee afterwards? Or would this impact taste?
we do it this way all year long
What about brewing hot coffee and freezing it into ice cubes ?
Then when you add the coffee ice cubes it would not dilute it.
Does anyone know if this is ok to do or is there cons for freezing the coffee ?
If it's better to use more hot water and less ice, then why not brew hot coffee and then let it cool or refrigerate it? Could someone enlighten me?
Third year in a row, making iced coffee along to this recipe has become something of a yearly tradition when the sun starts coming out. My brew is drawing down now and I'm excited!
I followed this recipe verbatim and it is unreal. Thanks James!
Love this, same technique I use, learned from Saint Frank in SF
Could someone please share with me how much coffee to ice as well as water if I have 30 grams of coffee?
Instead of using ice cubes, why not use those reusable stainless steel whisky stones?
Ahh James. The Rod Serling of coffee !
The same video without the music would be perfect.
How about making ice from previous made-coffee. Instead of adding another pieces of ice after the 60%ice and 40% hot water
Desperate for spring to really kick in, to brew this. Might try it with a clever dripper to help with extraction.
I scaled down this recipe for just 250ml and it was truly great. To serve I used half a cup coffee and half a cup milk with ice and the result was truly lovely
How long would something like this last in the fridge vs. Cold brew?
