She poses a great question: If this is all so serious, then why isn't it made into a national emergency; why isn't change happening? Some people say it's because this is all propaganda, that climate change isn't real, that nothing is happening that isn't part of the earth's natural warming cycles. One comment said "It's all part of leftist propaganda. If we all recycle it will resolve itself."
While climate change is part of the earth's natural warming cycles, there is an undeniable spike in emissions produced. According to the National Park Service, earth's temperature fluctuates over tens of thousands to millions of years, but the current rise has spiked. A little greenhouse effect is natural, but in the words of the NPC, "the current warm up, and the speed at which it is happening, is unprecedented." These sharp rises normally would occur over tens of thousands to millions of years, but they are happening NOW. And these changes have effects on all of the life on earth. According to the Third and Fourth National Climate Assessment, the temperatures will continue to rise, droughts and heat waves will pillage the country, hurricanes will intensify, the seal level will rise 1-8 feet by 2100, and the Arctic will become ice-free. This is not a political issue, this is an issue of the environment, of humanity, of life and death. As Greta references, we are also living in the 6th mass extinction. According to Nat Geo, extinctions are occurring hundreds of times faster than they would naturally.
A lack of action affects all of humanity, but a lack of action is not the only issue. It is a lack of cooperation. Ignorance on climate change and other pressing issues illustrates disharmony, such as the government’s erratic response to coronavirus. If there is not cooperation within the powers that hold all of the influence or power, mankind will be in peril.
Climate change is real not the 'activists'
If you want to do something, just do it in your country and for your country. Don't mess-up with Indian farmers.

I think it’s crazy how there is visual evidence of climate change and yet people still don’t try and do something about it.
This was a great message and hopefully a wake up call. People need to realize this is a serious situation we are in. No one talks about this and we need to bring light it it now to save us and our future generations. Countries need to act on it now and start to change to save our future.
As a younger person in this world, I'd like to be able to think past 2050 in terms of living a life. Climate change is a real problem that does need solving and I think she words this wonderfully and concisely. She has a better grasp on what's happening environmentally than a number of adults I've spoken to.

What a powerful speech. When talking about hope I agree that change comes with hope. Our generation will not see a bright future if we keep at the pace we are at now. There will be no future if we as a world don’t change our ways. There are many things people can do each day to stimulate change in the community but no one hears about it because politicians and the media don’t care. They should care. Our lives are at stake and at the rate we are going politicians will regret their choices of silencing the global warming crisis.
She talks about how when we look into the future we do not see past the year 2050. This is true but I wonder why? Is it because we know we are ruining our planet or because it seems so far away? While I do not have the answers to these questions it does seem very very interesting. She talks about how what we do right now cannot be undone by this generation or the next generation. That really hit home because she is right. Now is the only time that we can change and if we don’t change now there will be no need to change because our planet will eventually be no more. We are already killing more and more animals. We are overusing our resources and harming our planet. We can’t bring those animals back but we can save the ones in the future.
If we don't start to fix climate change now year after year our living conditions will get worse until we are gone for good

I hate to break it to poor Greta and others. Climate Change is a normal event. It has been happening for millions of years. Matter of fact the climate changes four (4) times a year. For examples of Global Climate change. One only has to look at the Ice Age. Man was no where to be found, yet the climate changed on a global scale. There are more things involved in Climate change besides people and pollution. Yes that is some of it. I mean if you look at our past. 900 – 1300 AD The earth was warmer than it is now. During that time we did not have Oil, Gas, Factories, etc causing pollution. Yet it was the warmest in Modern History.
Climate change happens, there is nothing we can do to stop it. Maybe slow it down, but not stop it. Wake up!!
