Is it in Hunington,Pennsylvania?
what you picked up, those were actually strobili…and spores are the particles of the "dust" 🙂
Er det myk eller stri kråkefot?
In the 1980's I used this powder (essentially photographic flash powder) for stage effects in Christian Rock Concerts and even close up magic. Hundreds of uses and no accidents, unless you count the pots that failed to fire. We put metal flake glitter (not plastic) on top of some powder in a tuna can, using an extension cord with a switch set for normal off to control them. The metal flake glitter got red hot, looking like fire, and burned out before anything could be burned. I could give stories or details on how to safely make the pots but someone responsible will need to ask. REMEMBER – never substitute blue dot (gunpowder) or let the lycopodium compress at all or you have a bomb. I used to put it in a thumb tip with flash paper. It made a loud bang and the smoke ring went to the top of the theater every time. Although only an armature magician I was given credit by the professionals for inventing that use of a thumb tip, flash paper, and powder. I actually had a guitarist forget the pot, miss his cue to back off, and was looking into it when it went off and no injuries – I don't know how he was not hurt and we had rehearsed it.
You are too cool!
norske?
Probably be a good idea to leave some to reproduce the population.
The elongated structures he's removing from the Lycopodium (club moss) are spore-bearing "cones". Each "cone" (technical name is a strobilus) produces zillions of tiny spores. The powder that the strobili (plural of strobilus) release are the spores, which are flammable. If you only take a few strobili from each plant it can reproduce and you'll have more to pick in the future!
Now… Isn't the yellow powder itself the "spore" and not those fluffy thingies containing the powder? I always though spores are like super-tiny-seeds or the seeds of funghi and moss…
It is a pity you do not sell it, as it doesn't grow anywhere near me :0(
Lycopodium powder is used in movie practical effects, it produces large scale explosion simulations that can be set off indoors and near actors with no risk of property damage . Used with a combination of an air mortar you can fill with debris and blow out resin glass windows along with the powder over a small fire rack.
jeg bare gjetter at du er norsk i hvilke fylke eller kommune fant du de plantene jeg finner ingen her i akershus men jeg er vel kansje bare i feil onråde?
I think the climate might not be good enough here?
And I wouldn't know where to get the seeds 🙂

grow your own then
Nice video!
Unfortunately, in my country, the numbers of this plant (Lycopodium Clavatum) has declined and it's very difficult to find them. It's even on a red list of endangered species!!
So it's probably illegal to even take the spores.
or club moss, am i correct or it that only for the Australian Lycopodium?
you should also tell people not to pick ALL the tops of one plat close to each other, so that you don´t have impacts on the population of plants where you pick them.
thank you fpor the how to!
I want to live in Norway. Now for more reasons than just because it's gorgeous.
The hutkeeper brought "Franzbranntwein" (an embrocation made of diluted spirits of wine and essence) and massaged the foot without success. Following a suggestion, the young Weinmeister wound the Club Moss around the cramped foot up to the knee. In a moment the foot turned back to its normal position. Now he thought this was a coincidence. Perhaps the cramp would have gone without the Club Moss. On the way home he picked a handful of Club Moss for his landlady who suffered from leg cramps.
He thereupon told of the following event: As a young student he and his friends had been walking in the mountains. On the path to the hut between dwarf pines he found a Club Moss rambler. In high spirits, he wound it around his hat. In the hut one of his friends got a terrible cramp in his foot, that is, the foot stood at an angle to the knee. Everyone tried to help.
This is a SUPERPLANT! Maria Treben wrote about this plant: "During a walking tour through the forest which I undertook with a small group of people in Upper Austria, I pointed out to the Botanist, Dr. Bruno Weinmeister, the medicinal value of Club Moss in regard to cirrhosis and cancer of the liver."
Nice video. I believe the English name is running clubmoss.
