I paused it like you asked. 1. You aren't using your safety glasses properly. They need to be on your eyes, not your forehead. When I worked in the ship yards, we had to also use a face shield along with our safety glasses. 2.You are using the angle grinder without the guard, that is a huge osha violation. 3. The cutoff wheel is not the proper size for the angle grinder. These are RPM specific and very dangerous. I've seen them blow apart and lodge in objects. Not good if that object is your body part. 4. Grinding/cutting over and around flammable materials. 5. Should be wearing long sleeved shirt made of cotton or fire proof material. 6. Even though most people don't wear respirators when they are cutting with a cut off wheel or grinding, I do. You'd be amazed at what kind of grungy crap you are breathing in. Keep your lungs healthy and use a respirator. 7. This may sound stupid, but the torch lead should have a torch on it. Not left open like that. If you aren't using it or there is no torch hooked up, the leads should be disconnected from the bottles and the bottles should be capped. 8. No ear protection. 9. Other PPE that we can't see should be taken care of. This would include lace up leather boots at the least. Steel toe even better.
ok….these would be my guesses…1….no PPE…ears…eyes…and dust….2…operating one handed….3…no guard on the tool….3…aiming the sparks at flammable….not to mention explosive substances….4…long facial hair thats not covered….5…the workpiece hasnt been secured,,,and is being held by the operator….I honestly HAVE NOT taken any professional safety courses…I am a hobbyist scrapper that is going into business for himself,,,and I'm now back to watching….I hope I caught them all….
My friend knows someone who lost both arms and both legs from a grinder. I think they should be banned.
No guard on your grinder, handle not installed and being held onto with your other hand, not using both hands on the grinder, work piece being cut not clamped into place and holding with hand, not wearing your safety glasses, no safety face shield, corrugated fiberboard box and wood scraps lying on the floor where sparks could ignite them, floor cluttered with chains and a bucket of scraps to trip over, solvent container in the area where sparks could melt thru the container and ignite, oxygen and acetylene bottles and it's hoses too close to grinding area, not wearing proper protective coverings on arms or better yet a welding jacket to help repel sparks and harm if possible failure if the disc if it were to grenade, AND NO BEARD GUARD !!!

Every video I watched on how to use this tool seemed to be lacking something I could not quite put my finger on it until I came across this video. Now I know exactly whats missing from the others and that's proper safety. So glad I came across your video. Lol my dad uses the tool just as you do at the start of the video no protection nothing. The CFA in Australia says that using angle grinder is not allowed during a day of total fire ban due the high chance of how they can start bushfires. All it takes is one spark to start a wildfire that can devastate towns and forests.
Works great. Came with enough accessories to get started MyBest.Tools Pretty sleek so you can grip it firmly with one hand. Only issue is that the cutting wheels they included are pretty thick.
It says in the instructions with my abrasive cut off blade not to use it if it has been dropped. Dropped how far and how hard? Doesn't make sense. Can you test the blade to se if it is ok?
Thank you for mentioning to set the grinder down on the foot of the grinder. Drives me crazy when people set it down the wrong way!!

When using a stringer wire wheel always make sure your not on the end that material could be slung at you, stand off to the side of the grinder even when you first fire it up. A peice of wire or slag in the gut aint a good time.
Thank you so much for this. I've never used an angle grinder before, and just bought one to free my bike from the lock to which I lost the key. It's still locked right in my old city, so I'm traveling there to bring it back. I already had the face protection ready, but I had the wrong type of gloves, wrong pants (100% synthetics), wrong shoes, and I hadn't even considered the very good points about which direction the disc turns with regards to kicks and whatnot. Your video has potentially saved me from personal injury or worse. Power tools are awesome, but also surprisingly dangerous.
One thing i do after mounting a wheel is point it in a safe direction and pull the trigger for a second, then let it spin down. That lets me know that everything is mounted well and balanced. I have an air grinder that stops a bit quicker and LOVES to launch heavier steel brushes if they are not tight (they just unscrew from the arbor, still going 10k rpm). Had to chase a couple across the shop before, then launched one across the parking lot after hours just for the fun of it. It must have been going 30-40 mph by the time it hit the other side couple hundred feet away. Not the most dangerous thing, but would have been an "oh sh*t" moment if the lot wasn't empty.
how long before OSHA has a full 360 degree guard around the entire cutting wheel ?

I hate guards, just like everyone else, they are always in the way, however, use the friggin guard. I have a vid that shows what happens when you don't – not intentionally. Basically, me being a dumbass in more ways than one. Thank you so much for this video, I have always used these tools without really know what I was doing and the correct way to do things. You answered many questions I have always had. Now I can quite saying… that's probably okay.
