My first grinder was a small blade grinder. And although it did the job, it difficult to get consistent results, and the racket was immense. Last year I bought that Wilfa grinder shown in this video, and it's a lot nicer to use. For me it's exclusively used to make filter coffee, and it works fairly well. But it does trick you with a large bean bowl and a small grounds tray, so you have to be careful not to make too much in one go. And there's a lot of static electricity making emptying the tray a messy experience. I'm told tapping and waiting a few minutes should help, so I will try that next time. It does get quite loud though, as mentioned in the video… so I can see myself upgrading again in a couple years. Certainly not a bad grinder for the relatively cheap investment though.
@James Hoffman sir, will you review the La Pavoni Cilindro grinder that came out a while ago?
I have a specific question about grinder maintenance, but have you thought about doing a video on grinder (or other equipment) maintenance? My question: I use the "Grindz" or similar pellets to clean my flat burr grinder, but they are kind of expensive. I hear some people are using cheap white rice instead. Others say that white rice can harm the machine. Yes? or is that misinformation from the pellet manufacturers' association?
I really wanna hang out with this dude!!
I used to have an electric grinder but switched to a hand grinder a couple of years ago. So happy I did. The sound of an electric coffee grinder is not a good way to start your day! I got a Commandante and haven't looked back.
How many pepper grinders do you know that cost or atleast potentially can cost 3000 dollars that would keep giving incremental improvement on spending towards that figure? Poor comparison perhaps
What’s your take on Rancilio rocky, I am thinking of buying it for £200. Are there any better option for this price?
So the best coffee grinder is the Niche Zero. Got it.
all the stores (that i know of) around me (in northern California) only sell poopoo grinders. if i want to shop for a grinder for my home, it seems like i'm stuck with either googling brands i've already heard of or top 10 articles.
how do i shop for a decent upgrade from my $30 electric coffee fan? is there a website for this particular sort of thing? Amazon is not that website, in my very recent experience
I have a wilfa svart and it seems to be stepless, despite having visual markings that make it look stepped
Espresso isn’t cheap to have at home.
Does he mention the names of any of these grinders at any point, especially #6?
My thoughts on getting a hand grinder are, if there is a power failure how do I make coffee arggggggg. I have a portable gas burner and tank, means of brewing manually but an electric grinder hahahaha
What's a good grinder that won't break the bank? I'm just starting out
❤❤❤❤
I'd like to eventually be able to make espresso but for now I have a moka pot and not a big budget. I don't have a grinder but know it is an essential upgrade. I like the idea of hand grinders as they can be cheap yet good quality. I also like to camp and travel. I noticed in your hand grinding reviews, you didn't mention which would be good for moka pots. Could you recommend one or a couple for brewing with a moka pot? Bonus points if it could be used for espresso once I can afford a good machine. Love your videos btw. I've watched around 6 today hahahaha
A hand grinder is needed when the power goes out for a few days.
Love hand grinders – doesn't take that long – and is healthy little exercise for your joins – it's quiet and so better way to start the day compared to motor go loud BRRR
I've owned a Baratza Encore conical burr grinder for many years now and have been very satisfied, overall. The quality is good – it has ground a great deal of coffee with minimal issues. The grind is also pretty consistent, within a particular coffee. The differing hardness of various beans does show off its lack of internal stiffness, though. A harder bean will result in a coarser grind, with the same setting. It is a bit noisy and unpleasant to listen to, but acceptable for the price. Its biggest weakness, to me, is that the inlet hopper is significantly larger that the outlet bin. If you fill it and walk away, you WILL come back to a horrible jam, often requiring disassembly to clear.
